Who We Are: Electric Wizard, Doom from Dorset
We're Electric Wizard, a doom and stoner metal band from Dorset, England. If you've just found us, here's the short version of who we are, where our name comes from and what our music is about.
Where do we come from?
We started in Wimborne, a market town in Dorset, and took the name Electric Wizard in 1993. Jus Oborn had played in bands under other names since 1988; in 1993 he formed Electric Wizard with Tim Bagshaw on bass and Mark Greening on drums. Bagshaw and Greening left in 2003, and Liz Buckingham joined on guitar the same year.
Where does the name come from?
From two Black Sabbath songs: "Electric Funeral" and "The Wizard". Put them together and you have the band, and a fair idea of where our sound starts.
What does Electric Wizard sound like?
Slow, heavy and loud. We play doom and stoner metal, and our songs deal with the occult, witchcraft and horror films. Nine studio albums in, that hasn't changed.
